Jessica’s Story

Project Description

Jessica’s Story is told as part of the first Missouri Safe and Sober Drug Prevention Program video. After working with Safe and Sober for 5 years, in 2016 they expanded their curriculum of underage drinking education for Missouri students to include a drug prevention component as well. With the help of Jessica’s parents, Debbie Williams and Wayne Williams, her friend Ellen Sherman, and addiction specialist Sally Gibson we pieced together Jessica’s fall into addiction.

Field Production

Production for Jessica’s Story spanned just two days. One very long day was spent traveling for interviews. We first visited Sedalia, MO to interview her parent’s, Debbie Williams and Jessica Williams in the home where Jessica’s body was discovered. We then traveled to Blue Springs High School to interview Jessica’s friend, Ellen Sherman. Another interview, with addiction specialist Sally Gibson, was filmed in Springfield, MO on the second day.

Post Production

Post production for this piece was relatively straight forward. The story fell into place thanks to the multiple interview subjects. During post production one interview subject, Jessica’s ex-boyfriend was cut due to not fitting the direction the story took.
